Stainless Steel Relining for Gas Appliances: The Smart Choice

Appliance-Bvent-Reline

When it comes to ensuring the efficiency and safety of your home’s gas appliances and heating system, one of the best investments you can make is relining your appliance flue system with a stainless steel liner. These lining systems provide long-term benefits that enhance performance, improve safety, and can help extend the life of your appliances.

Why Relining Your Appliance Flue is Essential

Often, when homes are constructed, gas appliance chimney flues are constructed with terracotta clay flue tiles. While these flue tiles are a great option for new builds, over time, these venting systems can deteriorate due to moisture, heat, and acidic byproducts from combustion. This degradation can lead to inefficiencies, increased risk of carbon monoxide leaks, and blockages within the flue system. Relining of the flue system with an appropriate-sized liner is a proven solution to these issues, offering a durable and safe passage for exhaust gases to exit your home.

When Do We Recommend Relining?

We often recommend relining when flue tiles are failing, deteriorating, under/oversized, or are non-existent. When your flue tiles begin to deteriorate, cracks and gaps in the system can allow for carbon monoxide to make its way into your home, posing serious health risks. Installing a stainless steel liner ensures a continuous, airtight venting system, creating a safer and more efficient venting option.

The Benefits of Stainless Steel Liners

Durability & Longevity – Stainless steel liners are resistant to rust, corrosion, and extreme temperatures, ensuring a longer lifespan compared to traditional clay tile or aluminum venting systems. Allowing us to provide a Limited Lifetime Warranty on our stainless steel liner installations.

Enhanced Safety – A properly sized and installed liner helps prevent dangerous gases like carbon monoxide from leaking into your home, helping to protect your family’s health and safety.

Improved Appliance Efficiency – A well-fitted stainless steel liner allows for better draft control, condensation issues, reducing energy waste and helping your heating appliance function at peak performance.

Why We Choose Stainless Steel Over Aluminum Liners

While aluminum liners may seem like a cost-effective option, we do opt to not install aluminum liners.  Aluminum liners are prone to corrosion and breakdown, especially when exposed to high temperatures or acidic condensation from gas appliances. They can be easily torn during installation, which may be difficult to catch in some circumstances. Unlike stainless steel, aluminum lacks the durability needed for long-term safety and efficiency. Stainless steel liners provide superior protection against deterioration, making them the best choice for relining appliance flue systems providing peace of mind.

Why We May Recommend a B-Vent Installation

B-vent (or Type B gas vent) systems are specially designed for gas-burning appliances such as water heaters, furnaces, and boilers. These venting systems use a double-wall construction that helps maintain proper exhaust temperatures while reducing condensation buildup. There are certain cases where the construction of the home and placement of the appliances require us to install B-Vent pipe over the standard stainless steel application.

You may also see B-Vent application being recommended when the appliances are vented into a masonry chimney that is experiencing deterioration. Often, our technicians will recommend removing the masonry chimney down below the roofline, installing a stainless steel liner to vent the appliances, connecting the liner to the b-vent pipe at the roofline to extend out of the roof to code. This allows us to provide a cost-effective and long-term solution to exterior venting of appliances, vs. fully rebuilding the masonry structure or continuously revisiting masonry issues or leaks.

Invest in Your Home’s Future

Updating your appliance flue system with a Stainless Steel liner or B-vent system is a smart investment that enhances safety, efficiency, and longevity. Don’t wait until issues arise—ensure your home’s heating system is running at its best today.
